Cathedral Gorge

On the drive home from Pioche & Eagle Valley we stopped by Cathedral Gorge. The boys had a great time and dragged Julie along for their exploration. I remember this landmark from my childhood. I swear an episode of Star Trek was filmed here, if not one should have been.

Eagle Valley

After touring Pioche we headed to Eagle Valley to see other landmarks from Grandma's childhood. We toured the old schoolhouse which Grandma attended for 8 years, no indoor plumbing here.

We also visited Grandpa's grave. Grandpa was only able to meet Brendan before he passed. He would of been tickled to see all of his great grandchildren playing in the dirt above his grave.

Pioche, Neveda - Walker family reunion

The small town of Pioche is a very visually interesting place. This is where my Grandma LaRue was born 80 years ago. Most of the descendants of LaRue and Lionell, little babies and all, spent a morning walking/driving around this small town last week. I wish I had more time (and another hand) while we were touring around to take pictures. Sarah has a bunch of photos on her blog if you are interested. Parts of Pioche are completely abandoned but you could easily imagine the bustle when the town was thriving. This mining town, at one point, accounted for 60% of Nevada's murders, or so the tour CD stated. Wow.

Grandma Great & Nicholas

We stopped by to visit Grandma Great, Van & Julie on our way out of
St. George. We had a great time hanging with family.

Four generations

Mom, Nicholas and I visited with Grandma while Chris and the big boys
hiked the Narrows.

Grandma is 80!

Happy Birthday Grandma!!! We are wrapping up a celebratory weekend for
Grandma Walker, she is 80. We visited her birthplace and childhood
home in Pioche, Nevada and spent a bunch of fun filled days with
cousins and extended family. We are staying at mom & dad's new home in
St George. It's gorgeous! The boys and I have had a great time. We
picked Chris up at the little, little airport tonight. He'll take the
boys to the Narrows tomorow.
